Four-way stretch, cut for the mat

Wrestling: one garment, no seams where a hand can grab

A singlet is the smallest garment we make and the least forgiving. It has to stretch in every direction, come back to shape after two hundred washes, hold a full-colour design across seams that run over the hip, and give an opponent nothing to hold.

That last point drives the pattern. A wrestling singlet has fewer seams than any other garment in the range, and every one of them is placed where a grip is least likely.

The fabric is the whole specification

Singlets are made from a polyester-spandex knit with stretch across and along the fabric. The proportion of spandex decides everything: too little and the singlet rides up and bunches, too much and the design distorts when the garment is stretched onto a body. We knit to a proportion that has held up across enough seasons to be sure of it.

Sublimation suits this fabric particularly well, because the dye is in the fibre and stretches with it. A printed graphic on a stretch knit cracks along the stretch lines within a season; a sublimated one does not, which is why every singlet we make is dyed rather than pressed. The process is set out on our page on how sublimation dyes the fibre itself.

The straps are the part that fails first on a cheap singlet. Ours are bound with a stretch binding rather than a folded hem, so they do not roll or cut in, and the binding is the same colour as the design rather than a stock black.

Why youth singlets are not scaled adults

A youth wrestler has a different proportion between torso and leg from an adult, and a singlet is the garment where that shows most. Scale an adult pattern down and the leg openings sit wrong and the straps fall off the shoulder.

We draft youth singlets from a youth block. It is more setup work, and it is the difference between a singlet that a ten-year-old can wrestle in and one that they spend the match adjusting.

How a singlet order runs

  1. 01

    Sizes and cut first

High or low cut, and a size per wrestler. A singlet is sized by height and weight rather than chest, and we send a chart that works that way.

  2. 02

    One mockup, front and back

Because the back of a singlet is seen as much as the front, both faces are on the proof, with the design shown stretched to a body.

  3. 03

Cut and dyed in one run

The whole team’s singlets come from one printed roll, so the red on the heaviest wrestler is the red on the lightest.

  4. 04

    Bound and bagged by name

Straps and leg openings bound, then each singlet bagged and labelled where a roster is supplied.

What we make for wrestling, and what it costs

Prices are per piece and include the design work. Every garment has a minimum of 10 pieces; sizes can be mixed within it. A garment marked quoted is priced per order, because its cut and design coverage change the work.

GarmentWhat it isPer pieceMinimum
Custom Wrestling Singlets High-cut or FILA-cut singlet in four-way stretch, sublimated front and back. quoted 10 pcs
Sublimated Wrestling Singlets Full-print singlets where the design runs across every panel and seam, with no blank panels. quoted 10 pcs
Youth Wrestling Singlets Graded from a youth block rather than scaled down, so the leg openings and straps sit where they should on a smaller frame. quoted 10 pcs
Two-Piece Wrestling Uniforms Compression shirt and fight shorts for programs whose rules or wrestlers prefer a two-piece. quoted 10 pcs
Wrestling Warm-Ups & Hoodies Sublimated hoodies and warm-up tops in the team colours, worn between weigh-in and the mat. $39.99 $53.49 10 pcs
Powerlifting Singlets A wrestling-pattern singlet in a heavier, less stretchy knit, cut to the federation rules on strap and leg length. quoted 10 pcs

Wrestling questions

What is the minimum order for singlets?

Ten singlets of one design. Sizes can be mixed freely within the ten.

How much does a custom singlet cost?

They are quoted per order rather than listed, because a high-cut youth singlet and a full-print adult low-cut are different amounts of fabric and work. Send the cut, the sizes and a rough design and a written price comes back the same working day.

Do you make singlets for girls’ and women’s wrestling?

Yes, on a women’s block with a different strap and chest layout. The same fabric and construction.

Can the design cover the whole singlet?

Yes. Sublimation prints every panel, including the straps and the binding, so there are no blank areas unless the design wants them.

Will the print crack when the singlet stretches?

No. The colour is dyed into the fibre and stretches with it. That is the reason we sublimate rather than print singlets.

Are two-piece uniforms legal for our league?

That depends on the governing body and the level. Check your rules; we make both and will build whichever your league allows.

How do we size a singlet?

By height and weight rather than chest. We send a chart, and three wrestlers tried in three sizes is enough to place the rest.

How long does a singlet order take?

Two to three weeks from approved artwork. Stretch fabric is cut slowly, which is why we do not promise faster.
