Custom Printed Jerseys — names, numbers and full-panel colour

A printed jersey is where a garment stops being stock and starts being yours. Everything on this page carries something specific to the program: a player name, a number the league will accept, a crest drawn from your own artwork, or a design that runs across the whole panel rather than sitting in a rectangle on the chest.

The design is the easy half. The half that decides whether the jersey survives the season is the method — whether the colour is inside the fibre or sitting on top of it — and that is a decision worth making before anybody draws anything.

Colour in the fibre, not on it

Sublimation turns dye to gas under heat and bonds it into the polyester itself. Nothing sits on the surface afterwards, which is why a sublimated design cannot crack, peel or lift at a corner — there is no layer to lift. What eventually ages is the fabric around it.

That single property is why an extra colour costs nothing. A twelve-colour design and a two-colour design are the same print pass, so gradients, photographic panels and colour that runs into the seam are all available at the price of a plain shirt. No other method on this site can say that.

The limit is the fabric. Sublimation bonds to polyester and does not bond to cotton, so a cotton-rich garment rules the method out before a design exists. That constraint, and the five others that decide method, are set out in how sublimation puts colour into fibre.

What we need to print, and why

Six things that decide whether a printed order runs clean or comes back for a second approval.

Vector artwork
An AI, EPS or SVG file scales to any size without softening. From a low-resolution image we redraw the mark and send the redraw for approval — which is fine, and adds a cycle.
A colour reference
A Pantone number or a physical garment. A hex value fixes the hue and not the depth on a textured knit, which is the part people argue about later.
The roster as text
Names typed, not photographed. A misread name is a remade garment, and handwriting is the single most common source of one.
Your league’s number rules
Size and placement are enforced, and a rejected uniform is a forfeited game. Tell us the association and we will lay the numbers out to it.
Which garment
The same design sits differently on a long basketball jersey and a volleyball shirt. Panel shapes are per garment, not per design.
Sponsor files, if any
Vector plus the brand guide, asked for at the point the sponsorship is agreed. A logo squeezed to fit a panel is a distorted logo.

Printed, or stitched?

Both are on this site. This is the honest comparison, not the one that sells the dearer option.

Names and numbers are a data problem before they are a print problem

Most of the mistakes on a personalised order happen before anything reaches a printer. A roster arrives as a photograph of a whiteboard, or as a spreadsheet where two players share a number, or with four names still marked TBC — and production cannot start against any of those.

So the useful discipline is unglamorous: one typed list, one column for name, one for number, one for size, and a person named as the one who approves it. Programs that do this get their kit earlier than programs that pay for urgency.

It also makes a mid-season addition trivial rather than expensive. With the list and the specification on file, four more jerseys in February match the ones from September; reordered from a description, they approximate them.

Questions we get asked

Does a more complicated design cost more?

Not in sublimation. Colour is printed rather than assembled, so a twelve-colour design and a two-colour design are the same print pass. In stitching and twill it does cost more, because each colour is a separate operation repeated on every garment.

What artwork file do you need?

Vector — AI, EPS or SVG — which scales to any size without softening. From a low-resolution image we redraw the mark and send the redraw for approval; that works, and it adds a cycle to the timeline.

Can you match our exact school colour?

Against a Pantone number or a physical garment, yes. Against a screenshot we can get close, and close is the honest word — the image has already passed through a camera and a screen before it reaches us.

Will the print crack or peel?

Sublimated colour cannot, because it is inside the fibre rather than on top of it. There is no layer to lift. Anything pressed onto the surface — vinyl in particular — will eventually lift at a corner.

How do you handle player names and numbers?

From a typed list, one row per player, with size beside the name. A photograph of a handwritten roster is where misread names come from, and a misread name is a remade garment.

Will our numbers meet league rules?

We produce to the size and placement your association specifies, and we flag a design that puts a number somewhere the rules will not accept. A rejected uniform is a forfeited game, which is more expensive than a redesign.

Can we add players after the order?

Yes. The specification stays on file — fabric batch, pattern, print calibration — so four more in February match the September set. Reordered from a description months later, they would not reliably match.

Can a sponsor logo go on the jersey?

Yes, printed, which holds a corporate colour exactly and does not lift at the corner. Ask the sponsor for vector artwork and their brand guide when the sponsorship is agreed rather than when the kit is being designed.

Can we mix printing and stitching on one garment?

Yes, and it is common — a sublimated design with a twill name or number over it. It costs more than print alone and less than a fully stitched garment, which is often exactly the right place to land.

What is the minimum order?

It is set per garment rather than site-wide, because a reversible and a single-face jersey are not comparable pieces of work. Send the roster and the garment and we will give you the number that actually applies.

Sizes, colours and roughly when you need it is enough to work from. You get a written quote and a mockup in your colours before anything is committed, and the design brief on our step-by-step kit design tool covers the same ground if you would rather build it yourself first.
