Bottoms, matched to the top
Custom Team Shorts & Pants — cut and dyed with the jersey
Shorts and pants get specified last, ordered separately, and then have to match a jersey that was produced weeks earlier in a different run. It is the most reliable way to end up with a kit that is two shades of the same colour, and it is entirely avoidable.
Everything on this page follows from that: the bottom half is a component of a set, not a product that happens to be sold alongside one.
Fit is a bigger decision here than on the top
A jersey that is an inch long is a jersey that is an inch long. A short that is an inch long changes how a player moves, and inseam preference varies more between players in one squad than any other measurement we take. We quote a default inseam per sport and expect it to be adjusted, rather than treating it as a specification nobody questions.
Waistbands are the other place cheap bottoms fail. An elasticated waist with no drawcord will be stretched out by the end of a season on the players who need it most; a bonded waistband with an internal cord costs a little more and survives the year.
For football, pants are a different problem again, because pads have to fit inside them. That sizing is set out on the football specialist site rather than here, since it is genuinely sport-specific.
What we make
Game shorts
Cut and dyed with the jersey, with matched side panels and trim rather than an approximate colour.
Training shorts
The daily pair, in a lighter specification — the same reasoning as the rest of our daily practice and training kit.
Game pants
Built to take pads, in the cuts each league expects.
Compression bottoms
Worn underneath and printed to match, so a layer that shows is a layer that belongs.
The measurements that decide whether a squad wears them
Inseam is the one players notice and the one specifications leave out. An inch either way changes how a garment moves, and preference varies more between players in one squad than any other measurement we take — which is why we quote a sport-appropriate default and expect it to be argued with rather than accepted.
Rise is the measurement nobody mentions and everybody feels. A short cut for a taller athlete rides in a way that gets adjusted between every play, and no amount of fabric quality fixes it. If a squad has a wide height range, say so before the mockup: some cuts grade across that range better than others.
Waistbands are where cheap bottoms fail first, and the failure is predictable. Plain elastic with no drawcord stretches out by the end of a season on exactly the players who most need it to hold — the ones for whom the fit was already marginal.
None of it can be fixed after production, which is why sizing is settled before the design rather than after it, along the lines set out in our guide to sizing a squad without measuring everybody.
How the bottom half is specified
Six things to settle. Four of them are invisible in a photograph and all four are felt in the first session.
- Fabric
- Matched to the top it belongs to — the same knit, the same weight, the same dye run. A short in a different cloth reads as a different colour under floodlights even when the reference is identical.
- Inseam
- Quoted to a sport-appropriate default and expected to be adjusted. It varies more between players in one squad than any other measurement we take.
- Rise
- The measurement nobody names and everybody feels. A short rise on a taller athlete is adjusted between every play, and no fabric quality fixes it.
- Waistband
- Bonded, with an internal drawcord. Plain elastic with no cord stretches out by the end of a season on the players for whom the fit was already marginal.
- Panels and trim
- Cut and dyed as part of the design rather than applied to a finished garment, so a side stripe meets the jersey’s at the waist.
- Pockets
- Standard on training shorts. On game shorts it depends on the sport and sometimes the league, so it is a rule to check rather than a preference to state.
Why shorts are the piece that fails first
A jersey has one job and shorts have four: they have to move, take a slide, hold a waistband through a season of washing, and still match a top that was made in the same fortnight. More jobs mean more ways to fail, and the failures arrive earlier.
Elastic goes first, and it goes silently — nobody reports a waistband, they just stop wearing the pair. Seams go second, at the inseam, on the players who move most. Colour goes last and is the only one anybody photographs.
The reason so many programs order shorts separately is that they feel like the simple half of the kit. They are the half with more failure modes, and the half where matching is judged, which is the argument for producing them with the jersey rather than after it — set out on our page about matched sets made together.
What changes between sports
The same garment name covers four quite different requirements.
Basketball
Longer inseam, looser cut, frequently numbered. The piece most often ordered as part of a reversible set rather than on its own.
Volleyball
Spandex or a short fitted cut, four-way stretch, and the piece where a women’s-specific block is the default rather than a variant.
Soccer
Mid-length, light, and part of a three-piece kit — the shorts are the only piece that has to match both a shirt and a sock.
Football
Game pants built to take pads, which is genuinely sport-specific sizing and lives on the football site rather than here.

Florida Basketball Jerseys →Questions we get asked
Can we order shorts without jerseys?
Yes, but if they have to match an existing top, send us the top. Matching from a photograph is guesswork and we would rather not guess with your money.
Do you offer pockets?
On training shorts, yes. On game shorts it depends on the sport and sometimes on the league, so ask with the rule in front of you.
What inseam should we order?
We quote a sport-appropriate default and adjust it per player where you want that. Squads that measure two or three players against the size chart before ordering rarely need to change it afterwards.
Are numbers on shorts possible?
They are, and in basketball they are common. Placement is worth confirming against your league rule before the mockup is approved.
What inseam should we order?
We quote a sport-appropriate default and expect it to be adjusted — inseam preference varies more between players in one squad than any other measurement we take.

Do game shorts come with pockets?
On training shorts yes; on game shorts it depends on the sport and sometimes on the league, so ask with the rule in front of you.
What makes a waistband last?
A bonded waistband with an internal drawcord. Plain elastic with no cord is what stretches out by the end of a season, on the players who need it most.
Can girls' and boys' cuts be mixed in one order?
Routinely. Mixing cuts within a squad is normal; mixing fabrics across a set is where it stops being a set, and we will say so.
Do you make football game pants?
Yes, built to take pads. That sizing is genuinely sport-specific and lives on the football site rather than here.
